   The following are the more important of the giants and giantesses encountered in the Eddas: Angu bodi, Badi, Baugi, Bergelmir, Besla, Bolthorn, Elli, Fjörgynn, Gefjon, Gerdi, Gilling, Gullveig, Gunnlauth, Hlodyn, Hraesveglur, Hrimthursar, Hrungnir, Hymir, Hyndla, Hyrrokin, Jarnsaxa, Jord, Mimir, Njord, Nott, Orgelmir, Sif, Skadi, Skrymir, Surt, Thaukt, Thiassi, Thrym, Vadi, Vafthrudnir, Ymir. The generic name for the giants was Jotunn, and they lived in Jötunheim or Utgard.
